Tokio Jokio is a 1943 Looney Tunes short directed by Norman McCabe (Cpl. was added after the film finished production, as McCabe was drafted into the Armed Forces before its release). It is a propaganda film made during World War II mocking Japan in the style of a supposed Japanese film journal broadcast. Mel Blanc supplied all the voices. **Controversy over stereotypes:** The cartoon was intended as an American propaganda film against Japan while the two countries were at war. The depiction of the Japanese would generally be considered unsavory by today's standards. All the Japanese are shown wearing big glasses, having buck teeth and grinning and rubbing their hands in a very sinister way. Their stereotypical politeness is mocked by their continuous use of the words: "please", "regrett...

The depiction of the Japanese would generally be considered unsavory by today's standards. All the Japanese are shown wearing big glasses, having buck teeth and grinning and rubbing their hands in a very sinister way. Their stereotypical politeness is mocked by their continuous use of the words: "please", "regrettable" and "honorable". Also, their language is spoofed by adding many "Ooo's" at the start of every sentence and replacing the letter "l" with the letter "r" and vice versa. Furthermore, the Japanese are represented as being incompetent, weak, cowardly, and primitive. Although the jokes are generally aimed at Japan, the cartoon also pokes fun at Lord Haw Haw, Rudolph Hess, Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini. As with a lot of World War II cartoons in America, this hasn't aired on any network, syndicated, or cable channel due to its offensive content. However, the Cartoon Network animation history show ToonHeads once showed clips of this cartoon during a special episode about World War II-era cartoons, with a voiceover explaining that the cartoon, like many others at the time, had very cruel depictions of the Japanese. 8thManDVD.com and all content © 2015 ComedyMX LLC. 5 Banned Episodes Of Popular Kids Shows! Description: When television writers and producers try to produce content for children, the product is sometimes not appropriate. These programs may be banned because the show approaches adult material, may be insensitive to certain groups, take a tone deaf approach to education, or for purely political reasons. Sometimes, it’s in the best interest of the children if they are banned because they may be too alarming or disturbing. These are five banned episodes of popular kids shows. Some of these include offensive content. You have been warned. Let’s begin! 5.) My Little Pony - The Last Roundup Throughout My Little Pony a background character gained the attention of fans - a pony with crossed eyes seen in crowds. Her expression was the product of a mistake, but the producers found it so amazing that they left her in the background. After 19 episodes in the first season, Derpy Hooves became so popular that she eventually earned a speaking role in the second season episode “The Last Roundup.” The background character was brought to the foreground, and given a silly voice to match her ditsy expression. Certain groups were offended by character, making clear reference to the fact that the term derpy is used as a slur against the mentally disabled. 4.) Peppa Pig - Mr Skinny Legs When children’s programs try to teach them, more often than not the lesson can only be applied to a very specific scenario. Peppa Pig, a popular British children’s cartoon, tried to teach kids not to be afraid of spiders by showing children that spiders are safe to handle. While this advice is sound for most of the first world, it was very bad advice for one country in particular: Australia, home of nearly 50 different species of spiders that are dangerous to humans. 3.) Sesame Street - 22 Episodes Banned from Originally Airing in Mississippi Sesame Street has been a mainstay of children’s educational entertainment for almost 50 years and in that time has been praised for the way it deals with mature, emotional topics and tries to teach children how to adjust. The show has a long history of embracing diversity and multiculturalism, including prominent African neighbors on the show including Mr. Hooper, a shopkeeper on the urban street. While this drew criticism from conservative groups, the show’s diversity actually led the show to become banned in 1970 by the state of Mississippi, Jim Henson’s home state, because censors found its integration to be too threatening or advanced for children, though there was never an official explanation. 2.) Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog - Mass Transit Trouble The Blue Blur has been on television since 1993, when Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog debuted two years after the release of the first game. Because Sonic the Hedgehog’s cartoons have undergone just as many reboots as the video game franchise, the original cartoon is probably the one remembered the least. The show was a lot like other cartoons of the early 90s with a rough, stylistic animation style, and absurd gags. Sometimes the show approached rough stories too. In one episode, the show’s antagonist Dr. Robotnik bombed transit stations. In a children’s cartoon. Dr Robotnik attempts to bomb an airport, a train station, and a lighthouse before he’s stopped by Sonic. 1.) Bugs Bunny Nips the Nips While cartoons will approach political issues for the purpose of educating kids, cartoons used to be just another form of propaganda, devolving to racist caricatures and hateful messages. In Bugs Bunny Nips the Nips cartoon Bugs Bunny finds himself stranded on a desert island that turns out to be occupied by Japanese forces, drawn in crude and offensive caricatures. The name itself is a pun, but also a racial slur for Japanese people, who call their home country Nippon. Throughout the episode, Bugs Bunny uses more racial slurs as he fights an increasingly offensive series of Japanese stereotypes voiced with accents by Mel Blanc, Bugs Bunny’s voice actor. The episode is no longer available through official Warner Brothers channels of distribution.
