It was intended as an American propaganda film against Japan while the two countries were at war. As with most of the Looney Tunes shorts produced during World War 2, the film consists of a series of rapid-fire, short gag vignettes. The opening scene features a voice-over explaining that the short is merely a Japanese newsreel that was "captured from the enemy". The theme is on Japanese propaganda. Although the jokes are generally aimed at Japan, the cartoon also pokes fun at...
Tokio Jokio is a 1943 Looney Tunes short directed by Norman McCabe (Cpl. was added after the film finished production, as McCabe was drafted into the Armed Forces before its release). It is a propaganda film made during World War II mocking Japan in the style of a supposed Japanese film journal broadcast. Mel Blanc supplied all the voices. **Controversy over stereotypes:** The cartoon was intended as an American propaganda film against Japan while the two countries were at war. The depiction of the Japanese would generally be considered unsavory by today's standards. All the Japanese are shown wearing big glasses, having buck teeth and grinning and rubbing their hands in a very sinister way. Their stereotypical politeness is mocked by their continuous use of the words: "please", "regrett...

My Daddy Long Legs (私のあしながおじさん Watashi No Ashinaga Ojisan?) is a 1990 Japanese anime television series based on the novel Daddy-Long-Legs written by Jean Webster. The show was part of the container World Masterpiece Theater produced by Nippon Animation studios and was awarded the Excellent Movie Award for Television by the Japanese Agency of Cultural Affairs for Children in 1990. Webster's story had been adapted into anime previously by Tatsunoko Productions in 1979 with the TV special Ashinaga Ojisan, which was directed by Masakazu Higuchi. The aforementioned special was dubbed in English and released in the US and is otherwise unrelated to this television series.
Here's something REALLY obscure I found. It's a Golden Book Video from 1986: "Aesop's Fables of Patience & Honesty." It's actually a Japanese anime that is hosted by three monkeys. It was simply titled "Aesop's Fables" and produced by Nippon Animation (the same Japanese studio that also did "Around the World with Willy Fog" and the "My Favorite Fairy Tales" anime.) I also have reason to believe that Golden Book Video actually dubbed this anime themselves, since I saw some of their usual crew members listed in the end credits. Anyways, this story is of "The Wolf and the Lamb." A not-so-wiley wolf discovers a flute, and learns its music mesmerizes his prey. However, his vanity is his downfall when a captured lamb compliments him on his musical talents. He becomes absorbed with his flute pla...
Episode 1: My Aspiration to be a Catholic Nun. Part 1/2 I don't own this video. Trapp Family Story is a Japanese anime series by Nippon Animation. It was based on the memoir The Story of the Trapp Family Singers by Maria von Trapp, which has also inspired the world famous musical The Sound of Music. While many things were changed from the original story, unlike other adaptations such as The Sound of Music, the children's names are all correct in this version.
